Meet the Governors

To contact any of our Governors please phone, email or write to them care of Great Oaks School. 

The whole Governing Body meet 6 times a year. There are also four governor committees covering pay, finance and building, health and safety and staff and curriculum. They meet termly. 

Sue Williams
Chair of Governors

Sue Williams worked in Education in Southampton for 27 years and for the last 15 years was responsible for SEN at the School where she worked.

After retiring she became a Governor at Great Oaks as her Grandson was then a student there, it gave her opportunities to learn more about ways of supporting the very special young people at Great Oaks.

Sue enjoys the Gym, the W.I, gardening Book Clubs, grand-children and being a Governor! 

Neville Button
Vice-Chair of Governors

Neville, an accountant, has been working in Financial Planning at Southampton City Council since April 2009, and prior to that spent 18 years with the Audit Commission.

In his spare time he enjoys watching most sports, and, although a Chelsea supporter, is a Saints season ticket holder.

Annette Fielding
Parent Governor

Annette is a parent Governor. She is married to Andy, has two sons one of whom was a pupil at Great Oaks. Annette and Andy run their own Security firm in Southampton.

In her spare time Annette helps with the Hurricane Rugby team which is made up of current and ex-pupils and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Tony Boyle
Chair of Finance Committee 

Tony is married to Mary, has two children, Alex and Amy and is a parent governor. He is a chartered architect and runs his own design company in Southampton.

A passionate Saints supporter, he is a regular at St. Mary's stadium where he and Alex are season ticket holders.

Tony is also a Trustee at Rosewood Free School.

Zena Hilton
Co-opted Governor

Zena is a Senior Academic Co-ordinator at the University of Southampton and manages a range of language projects and the Southampton Science and Engineering Festival.

She is married and has two young children. She has been a Governor since 2009.

Len Mockett
Local Authority Governor

Len is a retired Laboratory Manager at the University of Southampton.

He was previously Vice-Chair and Chair of Great Oaks Governing Body and has been a Governor at the school for the past 15 years

Andy Evans
Headteacher

Andy joined Great Oaks as Headteacher in 2007. He has worked in the field of Special Educational needs in schools and colleges for the past 27 years.

Andy is married to Zoe and has 4 children He enjoys swimming, music, walking and time with the family. 

Vanessa Page
Staff Governor

Vanessa has more than 30 years experience of working with children and young people in various settings. Her particular expertise lies in the severe and complex end of the spectrum of learning difficulties.

Her main interests are family, gardening, creativity, opera, reading, cricket and theatre.

Debbie Fredericks
Co-opted Governor

Debbie Fredericks, married to Dave.  2 children Kayley and Tyler.

Has worked for Great Oaks School for  5 years. Works as an :

ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and completed her HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)  in August 2014.Has

Phil Orchard
Co-opted Governor

Phil has been a secondary school teacher and Church Pastor.

More recently he has been involved in delivering person-centred planning to people with various disabilities.

He is married with two daughters and a granddaughter. His interests include films, reading and walking.

Geraldine Lindsay
Co-opted Governor

Geraldine Lindsay joined the school in 2008. She is the Key Stage 3 Manager and Head of Maths at the School. She currently oversees the transition of students in Year 6 to the school.

Geraldine is married and has two children.

Claire Sorfleet
Parent Governor

Claire is married and has two sons, one of whom is Jack who attends Great Oaks Post 16.

Claire is a Consultant Needs Assessor for the Disabled Students' allowance. This provides Government funding to support students with a disability to access and succeed in Higher Education. Prior to this Claire was a researcher for an American Merchant Bank in London. She has also set up her own business providing a translation service for people owning properties in France.
