Careers & Futures
Our Aim and Ethos
We aim to help every student achieve their next best step. Careers education and guidance are essential in equipping young people with the skills and knowledge for future responsibilities and opportunities. Our approach is built around providing opportunities for our pupils to explore the world of work through a range of meaningful experiences.
As a SEND school, we adapt our Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance (CEIAG) programme to the diverse needs of our pupils, aligning with the Gatsby Benchmarks, our programme fosters essential skills for adulthood, providing students with the tools to progress confidently into their futures. We also work alongside pupils and their families to support in choosing the next steps in education post Great Oaks.
Careers and Futures Programme at Great Oaks School
Welcome to the Careers and Futures section of our school website. At Great Oaks School, we are committed to helping every student prepare for adulthood and gain confidence in their future opportunities. Our Careers and Futures Programme aims to equip pupils with the foundational knowledge, skills, and experiences to make informed choices about their next steps in education, employment, and independent living.
Careers and Futures Programme at Great Oaks College
At Great Oaks College, the key threads of our curriculum are based upon the Preparation for Adulthood outcomes. The weekly schedule ensures that community inclusion, employability, independence for living and health and wellbeing are placed at the forefront for development and are interwoven throughout.
Employability and Enterprise
As a continuation of the employability framework of our school curriculum, employability as a skill, is taught, alongside becoming experiential learning. Two days of the week are devoted to Enterprise, where students access a business that they have developed an interest in, and complete meaningful on-site work experience.
From this, young people are supported to understand their next steps and complete work experience in the community where appropriate.
